How AdsCove reconciles Shopify revenue with Meta and Google ad spend
Published and last reviewed: July 10, 2026 · AdsCove Product & Engineering
Direct answer
AdsCove divides Shopify gross order value by combined Meta and Google ad spend for the same requested date range. It separately divides the revenue reported by Meta and Google by that same spend, then shows the gap between platform-reported revenue and Shopify gross order value.
The formulas
blended_roas = Shopify GMV ÷ (Meta spend + Google spend)
Shopify GMV is the sum of each order's shop-money total price in the selected interval. Meta spend comes from account-level insights; Google spend comes from cost in micros converted to normal currency units.
platform_reported_roas = (Meta reported revenue + Google conversion value) ÷ total ad spend
Meta reported revenue is derived from spend multiplied by purchase ROAS. Google reported revenue is the conversion-value field returned by Google Ads.
overcounting_gap = platform-reported revenue − Shopify GMV
A positive gap means the two ad platforms jointly report more conversion value than Shopify recorded as gross order value for the interval. It is a diagnostic signal, not proof of a particular attribution error.
What “blended ROAS” means here
Because the numerator is total Shopify GMV—including organic or unattributed orders—the metric is analytically closer to marketing efficiency ratio (MER) than campaign-level ROAS. Use it to judge the business-level relationship between recorded store revenue and paid-media spend. Do not use it to claim that every Shopify order was caused by Meta or Google.
UTM revenue is supporting context
AdsCove separately totals orders with any first-visit UTM parameters and orders whose source, medium, or campaign looks paid. Those values help explain the revenue mix, but the current blended formula still uses all Shopify GMV as its numerator.
Limits that can change the answer
- Shopify order aggregation reads at most 25 pages of 100 orders per store for one requested interval. If the limit is reached, the report is marked sampled and the date range should be narrowed.
- The calculation adds monetary values directly. Connected stores and ad accounts should use the same reporting currency; the current formula does not perform foreign-exchange conversion.
- The Shopify numerator uses order total price. It is not a profit metric and does not subtract cost of goods, advertising fees, or operating expenses.
- Meta and Google conversion values follow each platform's configured attribution and conversion settings, so their reported revenue can overlap or use different windows.
- If Shopify is not connected, AdsCove does not calculate the Shopify-based attribution gap or blended metric.
How to request the report
After connecting accounts, ask the AI client to call get_daily_business_report for an explicit date range. Use analyze_attribution_gap when the question is specifically about platform-reported revenue versus Shopify.
